Position Description
The National Commercial Bank of Anguilla Ltd. (NCBA), Anguilla’s leading indigenous financial institution and a systemically important bank within the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, invites applications from exceptional banking professionals for the position of Chief Credit Officer (CCO).
This is a pivotal executive appointment at a defining moment in the Bank’s evolution. NCBA is pursuing strategic, credit‑led growth, deeper portfolio diversification, and enhanced profitability, while simultaneously executing urgent regulatory remediation, strengthening governance, and reinforcing its risk management architecture. The successful candidate will be expected to use credit not merely as a control function, but as a strategic engine for expansion, resilience, and national impact.
Role Purpose
As a core member of the Executive Management Team, the Chief Credit Officer will lead NCBA’s credit strategy, underwriting governance, and portfolio risk management, driving responsible loan growth, strong asset quality, regulatory alignment, and a modern, disciplined credit function.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a credit strategy that supports responsible loan growth, portfolio diversification, profitability, and strong asset quality, while positioning credit as a proactive driver of the Bank’s business development agenda.
- Drive business development and sales performance by working closely with commercial, retail, and relationship management teams to identify quality lending opportunities, deepen customer relationships, expand market share, and convert approved credit opportunities into profitable, well-structured business.
- Underwrite, review, and assess significant, complex, or strategically important credit facilities, while overseeing and strengthening underwriting standards, approval authorities, credit committee processes, and large or complex credit exposures.
- Strengthen portfolio monitoring, risk ratings, provisioning, reporting, credit administration, and collateral management.
- Reduce non-performing loans, accelerate recoveries, manage problem loans, and support capital recycling for new lending.
- Lead credit-related regulatory remediation and ensure alignment with ECCB prudential standards, IFRS 9, AML/CFT requirements, and internal risk frameworks.
- Build a high-performing credit and recoveries team that promotes accountability, service excellence, disciplined sales and growth, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Management, Economics, or a related field; a postgraduate degree is highly advantageous.
- 10–15+ years of progressive senior leadership experience in credit risk, lending, and portfolio management within a commercial bank or regulated financial institution.
- Demonstrated success in scaling loan portfolios while maintaining strong asset quality and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to lead credit remediation, strengthen governance, and manage complex credit exposures.
- Strong financial analysis, underwriting, risk assessment, and problem‑loan resolution skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
